Story inside this cup

Kawfee by Jonathan

“You wanna cuppa kawfee kid?” My father asked in his ripped mighty tighty whities. One ball always threatened to fall out of the stretched elastic. He knew I didn’t want his ugly cup of instant, heated in the microwave every Brooklyn morning. Nor did I want the borscht and sour cream he’d offer every night. Nor the pickled herring of his forefathers that appeared in big, greasy jars in the fridge every Sunday. All gone years now. If I could, I’d take that crappy cup of kawfee, get a spoon for the borscht, and avert my eyes from the ball, just to hear his voice one more time.

About this cup

This large Latte/Tea cup is produced at Studio Cor Unum. Designer Charlotte Landsheer worked out a solution for left over clay in the Cor Unum studio by re-using clay and glaze. The inside of the cup has glaze, the exterior is industrial and dusted. The result is a cup with a basic, firm and rugged look. The producing method makes every cup unique with a constant variation in a matted greyscale pallet. The perfection of imperfection as Lotte Landsheer puts it. And this fits how we like to view the world and it’s people.

Because of the use of high temperature, the cup is water resistant, strong and microwave and dishwasher safe.
