Story inside this cup

Pilot of right and wrong by Joost

I fly over Nouadhibou and a sandstorm chases across the square shaped city. A grid of rectangular houses with flat roofs. The streets have no curves. The harbour is a chimera; red rusted shipwrecks will never lift their anchors again. I land on a long strip in the middle of the town. To anchor my plane, I bring some large rocks under its wings. A man comes to help me and squats next to me. “How long are you planning to stay,” he asks. “The rocks are mine, but they are for rent, no problem,” and he sets a daily rate for me.

About this cup

This large Latte/Tea cup is produced at Studio Cor Unum. Designer Charlotte Landsheer worked out a solution for left over clay in the Cor Unum studio by re-using clay and glaze. The inside of the cup has glaze, the exterior is industrial and dusted. The result is a cup with a basic, firm and rugged look. The producing method makes every cup unique with a constant variation in a matted greyscale pallet. The perfection of imperfection as Lotte Landsheer puts it. And this fits how we like to view the world and it’s people.

Because of the use of high temperature, the cup is water resistant, strong and microwave and dishwasher safe.
